Job Summary: 

Blavity Inc. is looking for an SEO writer to help execute on our SEO content strategy. This position is a (1099) contractor who will be responsible for expanding our library of evergreen content by writing articles based on SEO keywords provided. The ideal candidate has some SEO and digital publishing experience, great writing skills and the ability to come up with great SEO story ideas (in addition to whatever is assigned to them)

This role will report directly to the Associate Director of SEO. 

Contractors will be responsible for providing their own equipment, including but not limited to laptop computers, cell phones, or any other electronic equipment required to perform their role.

Responsibilities: 

• Write compelling, SEO stories aligned with Blavity’s brand voice and tone.
• Check articles for  grammatical and factual accuracy, readability, as well as, expertise, authority, and trust (EAT).
• Publish articles in our content management system following best practices for online content formatting.
• Ensure that content follows basic SEO best practices, is structured and well optimized for performance.

Qualifications: 

• Education : Bachelor's Degree
• Required Experience : 
  • 1-2+ years experience writing for a digital publisher.
  • 1+ years experience using WordPress (or other content management systems) to author, publish, and edit content.
  • Knowledge of the latest AP Style guidelines, best practices for writing online and a basic understanding of core SEO concepts.
  • An online writing portfolio demonstrating exemplary writing and content creation skills.
• Preferred Experience:
  • 2+ years writing to acquire customers via Google Search.
  • Proficient with keyword research, on-page SEO, and content marketing best practices.
• Technologies : Fluent in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Asana, and Wordpress CMS 
• Additional Qualifications:
  • Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a positive and can-do approach.
  • Comfortable performing research to ensure our information is accurate and as useful to readers as possible.
  • Independent, entrepreneurial self-starter who is comfortable taking on a high level of responsibility.
  • Motivated to work hard in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills; willing to wear multiple hats. 
  • A healthy appreciation of GIFs and Black culture.

Details: 

• This is a fully remote role, occasional travel may be required. 
• Candidates must be available to work at least 80% in alignment with the Eastern Time Zone. 
• The pay rate for this role is $20 per hour.
